This is our list of the best driver for beginners and high handicappers in 2023. Please note that some of the drivers that made the list are last year’s (2022) models and not the newest models that have just come out. I did this because for players just starting out in the game, paying the premium for the newest clubs is probably not worth it. Your game would be better served taking the money you would save on brand new clubs and spending that money on a golf lesson with a teaching professional.
The models from last year are still really really good drivers, and also we were able to hit all of the clubs on this list to give the best possible review of them.
I did, however, include one driver model from this year’s class on the list. Scroll down to find out which one…
Top 5 List: Best Driver For Beginners & High Handicappers
All of the drivers on this list are great drivers and would be an excellent choice for a beginner to play. During testing, we found these drivers to be great for high handicappers because they are:
- Forgiving on mis-hits
- Great distance
- Available in higher lofts
- Easy to get in the air
Our #1 Recommendation: Best Driver For Beginners
TaylorMade Stealth Driver
Our best driver for beginners winner was the 2022 model of the TaylorMade Stealth driver. For players fighting a slice, you would be better off going with the Stealth HD.
I could not believe how far I was hitting the ball with this club. The distance you get really is incredible.
I chose last year’s model because for a beginner this driver has everything you need and I don’t think you need to pay $600 for the newest version.
Pros
Amazing distance
Easy to get in the air
Solid Forgiveness
Available in high lofts
Cons
None!
When the TaylorMade Stealth came out last year it was a game changer in the golf world. The new carbon twist face is just so hot off of the face, creating incredible speed for long, long drives. What makes this such a good driver for beginners and high handicappers?
- Easy to hit in the air
- Still goes a long way on mis-hits
- Still goes relatively straight on mis-hits
- Since it is last year’s model, you can find them for a decent price
Best Value Driver For Beginners
PXG 0211 Driver
The PXG 0211 Driver takes home the cake for best value driver on the list. The performance of this driver is right up there with all the other drivers on this list and it costs WAYYY LESS.
The 0211 is a no frills, no fuss, classic driver. I really like it and almost made it #1 on our list because of the incredible value you get for the money.
Pros
Amazing value
Very Straight
Plenty long enough
Classic look
Cons
Not quite as long as others on list
Best Driver For Beginners: Made In 2023
Callaway Paradym Driver
The Callaway Paradym was engineered for players of all skill levels, so even though you will see guys on the PGA Tour playing this driver it is still a great option for beginners who are willing to fork over some serious cash.
The driver offers a great combination of distance, forgiveness, and adjustability. The new carbon chassis allowed Callaway to move weight around the head for maximum speed.
The only reason we didn’t make this #1 was because of the price. We thought for a beginner just starting out, it would not be wise to spend so much on a driver, but if you have the money this thing is awesome.
Pros
Crazy long
Hard to hit bad
Ball speed was off the charts
Incredible feeling off the face
Cons
Price is steep
Cobra Aerojet Driver
There are a lot of sites online giving rave reviews about the Cobra Aerojet driver, and for good reason. It is a phenomenal driver. Cobra enhanced the club’s aerodynamics, giving the driver incredible ball speed.
What I liked most about bombing drives with this club was the sound it makes. There is nothing like the sound of a nice THWAK.
Pros
Great distance
Surprising forgiveness
Really nice looking and great sound
High ball speed
Cons
None
Runner Up 2023 Driver

PING G425 Max
PING G425 Max
High MOI and big time forgiveness provided by a moveable weight make the G425 Max a great driver for beginners and high handicappers.
The weight can be set for neutral, draw, or fade ball flight. I played this driver for most of 2022 and absolutely loved the consistency I got out of it.
Pros
Adjustable weighting
Forgiveness on mis-hits
Price
Consistent ball flight
Cons
Sound is not the best
